One of the rarest of all Pre-Raphaelite publications; only eight other copies are known. "Shortly after the appearance of Medea at the Royal Academy in 1869, a slim volume was published, elegantly printed & bound, containing Medea: a Poem by Alfred Bate Richards, w/a photograph of Sandys's picture as frontispiece. The gilt-stamped binding was clearly a Sandys design also" (Elzea [ibid] p.185).
